Day 9 – Base Camp (4400m)
As we all know by now, Yi Qian had Diamox the night before. As a result, he was peeing non-stop throughout the night. Non-stop is an exaggeration, but yeah, you know what I mean. Thankfully, Yi Qian woke up with a minor headache and his Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) was largely cured.
It was great that he was cured, but I suffered greatly. His incessant peeing in the night meant that I could not sleep well as he shone his headlamp around the tiny tent, waking me up in the process.
“Use your pee bottle!” I would say.
“It’s full already!” He replied.
Oh my. How many times did he pee in the bottle to fill it up?
Despite having his AMS cured, we decided to rest an extra day in Base Camp to ensure a complete recovery for him. Hence, the day was a complete rest day, where we simply recuperated, ate breakfast, and read books.
Those with Kindles read from their Kindles and those with hardcopy books read from their hardcopy books. Yi Qian brought an origami book and folded some interesting designs with the paper he obtained from the journal that we share. It’s funny how he brought such a book, and didn’t bring a single piece of origami paper. Was he expecting to fold the shapes in his mind? That’s extremely good visualization if he could… In any case, we did some sketching as well to pass the time and spent most of the time resting in the tents. We will be moving to Advanced Base Camp (5006m) tomorrow.
