Day 1 — Singapore — New Delhi — Chandigarh
Today we embark on our journey. We journey to India from Singapore. We met at Changi Airport at 0630 hours. After checking in, we were pleasantly surprised by Provost’s appearance at the airport. He specially went down to send us off and wish us a safe journey. We took a picture with our expedition banner, exchanged a few words, before going our separate ways to have breakfast with our loved ones before flying off.

Upon arrival at New Delhi, we met up with Edwin, who went there earlier as he had to meet representatives from the Indian Mountaineering Federation (IMF). After a Chinese meal in New Delhi (which wasn’t that great), we had a short bus tour around New Delhi before heading off to the train station to take a train to Chandigarh.

The train station was full of people and there were constant announcements. There was also this unique horn sound that all of us kept imitating. It got irritating after awhile. We waited about an hour for our train. When it arrived, everyone swarmed up the train. It was as if the seats would disappear if you didn’t get there in time.
What are they looking at?
Impatient look on our faces
The train ride to Chandigarh was approximately 3 hours and we passed various settlements and farms on the way to Chandigarh. Upon arrival in Chandigarh, we carried our heavy bags off the train and headed to the 4WD vehicles, which took us to the hotel. The same vehicles would be used for our long bumpy drive to Manali.
